The Virginia Math Foundation is pleased to announce the date for the second annual Great Virginia Math Contest.
The Great Virginia Math Contest is an annual event themed around Virginia civics, statistics, and history. The mission of the contest is to inspire students in Virginia and foster their excitement for both math and civics. The contest welcomes all students whether they've participated in math contests before or whether this is their first time.
Any student who is a resident of Virginia and is currently enrolled in third through sixth grade (or equivalent) may participate in the contest. Students will have 45 minutes to complete the contest, which will include math topics up to and including Grade 5 and Grade 6 standards.
Contest problems are word problems based on a Virginia Fact Sheet, which includes statistics and trivia about Virginia's demographics, industry, and history. (Please note that the contest is "open book" and participants do not need to memorize the information from the fact sheet).
Calculators will not be required to answer any contest problems, and participants will not be allowed to use calculators.
